Perteet performed a comprehensive review of the current preparedness program at the Pierce County Planning and Public Works Department. The project began by conducting a department-wide survey to gauge the level of employee preparedness and experience responding to emergencies, then staff interviews and discussions were held with the key divisions throughout the department. A report was prepared detailing the findings and recommended planning and programmatic actions the Planning and Public Works Department could take to increase their level of preparedness and improve response and recovery during emergencies. Recommendations included additional response planning, increasing collaboration between divisions, incorporating hazard specific data into land use regulations, and priority route planning, among others. The project concluded with a tabletop exercise facilitated by Perteet.
